Mission
We, in the Order of the Canons Regular of the Holy Cross have been touched by our Lord. He called us to leave the world behind us, that is the false promises of wealth and self-realization according to a worldly scheme. The greater happiness and mystery is intimate union with Christ. His love of total self-giving, on the Cross and in the Eucharist, both challenges us and witnesses to the fact that greater communion and happiness in God is possible in this life. In this light we see and embrace the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty and obedience. With Saint Paul we confess the supreme advantage of really and existentially knowing Christ in our own life, and so put aside the advantages of a worldly life. What kind of love is that flees not the wounds but seeks them! This is the Christ we want to know and learn to imitate. With his help and the grace of perseverance we know this goal can be achieved. We know that we have to help and bear one another. Having been touched by his Life and Love, we want to share it with others in our apostolate of retreats and missions. www.cruzios.org

  • The major religious orders of the first millennium of the Church were monastics. They sought stability outside the false order of the city. Hence, they did not live in cities. But mendicant orders did. They sought to transform the order of the city into the order of Christ, something they witnessed to in radical poverty … Continue reading St. Dominic and the Salvation of the City →

  • Right after the announcement of his resignation, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI reflected on the role of Peter at the Transfiguration. The lesson of the Transfiguration is the primacy of prayer and communion, the center of all activity. All this comes prior to activity. Contemplative religious are witnesses to this hierarchy. On this Feast of the … Continue reading Feast of the Transfiguration: The Primacy of Prayer →
