Are You Really Serious About Discerning God's Will For Your Life?

One of the criticisms of this current generation is that we do not like to make commitments. We are so accustomed to getting our own way—exercising our freedom however we want—that we shy away from anything that may seem to limit our choices.

Yet we know that true happiness can only come by finding, following and fulfilling God's plan for our lives. And that means a commitment because we cannot go “halfway” with God. It's all or nothing!

Discover and Discern God's Will

Have you ever considered the priesthood or consecrated life? Do you think that God may be calling you to serve Him with “an undivided heart”? Such decisions can be tough. It is not always easy to discover and discern His will for our lives.

To help in this process, Christ gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit whose primary mission is make us holy. Yet we need to invoke the Spirit's assistance to enlighten our minds and enliven our wills to take action!

What's the best way to prepare yourself to know what is God's will in your life, why you should do God's will, and how you are to conform your will to His? By making a retreat. All the great spiritual writers have always suggested this.

Retreat from Your Daily Routine

A retreat is a time to get away from the daily routine and spend time with God in silence and solitude. It's a chance to focus our attention on things that really matter—and then make some decisions in order to redirect our lives towards Jesus.

It's nice to be able to go away for a retreat, but this is not always possible. Family, school, work and other obligations can keep us from doing what we know we ought or would like to do.

The Virtual Vocation Retreat is designed for people—like yourself—who want to make a retreat but aren't able to get away. You can make a vocation discernment retreat without leaving your home, office or dorm.

Step Aside for the Holy Spirit to Work

The retreat requires you set aside only 20-30 minutes per day of reading and reflecting upon the daily meditations that will be emailed to you. You may want to do it at the beginning of each day so your can ponder the meditation throughout the entire day. All you need to do is step aside and allow the Holy Spirit to work!

The Virtual Vocation Retreat is a series of self-directed eight-day journeys of discovery and discernment that you can do alone—or even invite a friend or group of friends to do with you. Along with a daily Scripture reading and short meditation on a particular theme, there are some points to ponder and a short closing prayer. It couldn't be any easier!

Are you ready to begin? Do you think you are up for the challenge? Will you be able to turn off your cell phone, put away your iPod and tune into God?

If so, press the button below which will direct you to an informational page that must be filled out to start the process.

How It Works

It's easy! When you click the "Sign up" button below you will enter your name, email address, and street address. It takes only about 2-3 minutes.

The retreat consists of eight emailed meditations, one sent each day. The first email will be sent to you the day after you sign up, or a date that you specify. You will be sent an email each day afterwards. A week after the retreat is over, you will be sent an email invitation to take a short informational survey, which also includes a number of links to helpful vocation resources. Consider obtaining a copy of the audio CD "Myths and Misconceptions Concerning Vocations" by IRL National Director Fr. Thomas Nelson, O.Praem.

After signing up for a retreat, look for a confirmation email to which you must respond by clicking on the link in the email. If you have trouble getting emails due to your spam filters, you should add This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to your address book so you are able to retrieve the emails! The retreat will begin on the chosen day. You can remove yourself at any time by clicking a link in the email, or on this site and confirming your removal.

All this to help you discern your call in life!
