Mission

God searches for the unsatisfied, for those longing for something more in life. And He searches for men to find them. Men willing to give their lives over to Him, even as His Son gave His life for us.

We desire to be those men.

As Brothers, we are “spiritual marines” for the Church with a mission to evangelize to students on secular college campuses. From our inception in 1980, the Brotherhood of Hope has recognized the dire lack of faith among college students. After all, nearly 80 percent of ex-Catholics leave the faith by age 23 and only about 1 in 4 four-year institutions have a Catholic pastoral presence.

As a result, the Brotherhood has rushed to the front lines to increase the faith of college students. We engage with students at five major universities and surrounding colleges through Bible studies, retreats, formation programs, and outreach events.

Living in community and bound by vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, we support one another in laying down our lives to show college students that Jesus Christ is All-Sufficient.

Qualifications

As consecrated men, we take lifelong vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. We live as celibate Brothers because we believe that our consecration to Jesus is enough to fulfill our deepest desires. Likewise, we are Brother-evangelists because Christ alone can satisfy the lost. The anchor of hope (Hebrews 6:19) is our symbol because only He can give lasting hope to people. We are seeking men of character who are able to live community life well. A college degree is not required but helpful.

Formation

The Brotherhood’s formation process takes at least seven years. The novitiate year is the most intensive component and the only period of full-time formation. Brothers typically profess temporary vows for five years before professing perpetual vows. They also serve in the Brotherhood’s campus ministries during this period of formation. If you’re interested in the Brotherhood but haven’t met us, please contact Br. Ray Morris at broray@brohope.net. We also encourage you to explore our website at www.brotherhoodofhope.org to learn more about our life and mission committed to Jesus Christ. God Bless you in your discernment.
