Mission
As the Daughters of St. Francis, we dedicate ourselves to a life of prayer strengthened by the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. The evangelical counsels aids us to obtain our ultimate purpose, 'The glory of God and our sanctification.' As Franciscans, we aspire to serve Christ in His poor, sick and elderly brothers and sisters. Our apostolate is accomplished at Lacon Rehab and nursing in Lacon, IL, the Sacre Coeur Retreat Center in Magnolia, IL Catholic Charities Diocese of Peoria, and St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, MO. As a community, we are involved in a variety of roles, we promote respect for life from conception to natural death. In our prayer, we ask for the grace to intimately live out our charism of poverty, humility, and a loving union with God in the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Liturgy of the Hours, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary, meditation and personal prayer.
Qualifications
The young lady who desires to live a community life should have the freedom to leave the world behind and the desire to live a spiritual life dedicated to serving the poor, sick, and the elderly. The individual should be in good health, both physically and mentally sound, and have a high school diploma or higher education.
Formation
The formation program consists of one year of candidacy, one year of postulancy, two years of novitiate, and four to five years of temporary vows. With the guidance of the formator, the new religious sister will be introduced to a deeper understanding and appreciation of her vocation, the vows, the life of Christ, Franciscan Spirituality, etc. The formation program assists the young lady to grow in a personal love for Christ and a more profound sense of community life. The Novitiate is at the Mother house in Lacon.
