Mission
The vocation of the Discalced Carmelite Nun is that of a joyful life of prayer and sacrifice, a life of intimacy with God, and an offering of herself for the good of souls and the Church, especially for priests. The prayer of a cloistered Carmelite embraces the world and every soul in it.
The Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Ada, Michigan (relocated from Grand Rapids in 1991) was founded in 1916 when 16 Carmelite Nuns from the Carmel in Queretaro, Mexico fled to the United States during the persecution of the Church.
Qualifications
Good physical and mental health. Desire to belong wholly to God in the hidden life of the cloister and to serve the Church by a life of prayer and sacrifice.
