Mission

The sisters' life as contemplative nuns flows from the personal love of Christ for us manifested in His passion, death, and resurrection. We seek to comfort Him in His Sacred Passion by pondering the mystery of His undying love, by loving our sisters in community life and through Divine Worship. This is expressed most powerfully in our participation in the Holy Mass which is the highpoint of our monastic day. We have daily exposition of Blessed Sacrament, two hours of contemplative prayer, and we pray the entire Liturgy of the Hours.

In all our lives we seek to imitate Our Lady of Sorrows, the Handmaid of Redemption. The nuns enjoy daily recreation with one another. Our work is simple and includes the normal domestic duties of kitchen work, laundry, cleaning, sewing, but also computer work, answering letters, phones, doors, gardening and more. We host a small guest house, an oasis of prayer for people hungering for deeper union with God. We love being brides of Christ and daughters of the Holy Catholic Church!

Qualifications

Single, Catholic women in good physical, mental and emotional health. Along with a desire for prayer, the nuns look for maturity and sociability in a candidate. Although a college degree is not necessary there needs to be an ability for college level studies and the candidate needs to have a teachable heart.

Formation

One year aspirancy, one year postulancy, and two year novitiate, with classes on the Catechism, prayer, virtues and self-knowledge, monastic decorum, religious life, the vows, the Passionist Rule and Constitutions, liturgy, Sacred Scripture, monastic history, Passionist spirituality and more. Five years in temporary vows before making final vows.
