Mission
We are a clerical society of apostolic life of pontifical right - that is, a community of Roman Catholic priests who do not take religious vows, but who work together for a common mission in the world. The mission of the Fraternity is two-fold: first, the formation and sanctification of priests in the cadre of the traditional liturgy of the Roman rite; and second, the pastoral deployment of the priests in the service of the Church.
Qualifications
Good physical and mental health; moral aptitude and intellectual ability; completion of secondary education; two years of college or equivalent is recommended (a BA/BS degree is preferred);strong sense of piety and sacrificial willingness to give oneself totally to Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Formation
1. One year of spiritual formation introduces the candidate first to the mystery of salvation, and to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. 2. Two years of study in philosophy according to the principles and methods of St. Thomas Aquinas. This study is complemented by the disciplines of Latin, Greek, Sacred Scripture and Gregorian chant. 3. Four years of study in theology. This is a systematic study of the contents of the Catholic faith, relying on the Magisterium and St. Thomas Aquinas. The historical and scriptural bases for the Church's dogmas are also studied. During their final year, deacons gain pastoral experience in one of the Fraternity's apostolates. During the entire formation period, the candidate and seminarian is immersed in classical Roman Catholic spirituality through the observance of the traditional Latin Mass and sacraments, chanting of the Divine Office at Lauds, Vespers and Compline, Gregorian Chant Schola, and other devotions. Tonsure and investiture of the cassock takes place at the beginning of the second year of formation. Conferring of minor orders may begin the following year. Ordination to the transitional diaconate is generally at the conclusion of the sixth year of formation.
