Sister Servants of the Eternal Word
The Sister Servants of the Eternal Word is a public association of the faithful founded by Mother Mary Gabriel Long in 1987. The community is contemplative-active, committed to evangelization through catechesis and retreats, according to the ideals of St. Francis and St. Dominic who rebuilt the Church in truth and charity. The Sister Servants run Casa Maria Retreat House and also participate in family catechesis, Sacramental preparation, and other catechetical missions throughout the diocese, always teaching "spiritual things spiritually." (1 Cor 2:13)
When a young woman wishes to learn more about us or to discern a possible calling to our community, she should contact the Vocation Directress, who may invite her to attend one of our retreats so that she may spend time with the Sisters and see our apostolate first-hand. During that visit, time is set aside for speaking privately about the young woman's discernment and possible further steps. To be eligible for discernment with our community, young women must be: • Between the ages of 17-30 • Single • A Practicing Catholic for a minimum of two years • Debt-free • Not a primary care-giver in the foreseeable future • Ability to live according to the norms of this life, including good physical and mental health
One year postulancy, two years novitiate, and temporary vows are then renewed annually for a minimum of five years.
