Mission
The Sisters of Charity of Our Lady Mother of the Church is an active/contemplative institute of pontifical right. Our motto: “To Jesus through Mary,” signifies our prayer and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In light of our precious heritage we live our vowed life in community, with the Eucharist at the heart of our varied apostolates. Jesus in the Eucharist is the center of our lives. He is the love that guides our individual journeys. He is the strength that supports us in our lives together as Sisters in Community, in our diverse works of charity, in our labors for souls in His Church. Is God calling you to share this with us? Come and see! We shall be happy to welcome you to our home! As Sisters of Charity of Our Lady Mother of the Church, we embrace our two-fold mission of sanctity and service. In a spirit of simplicity, we aspire to live a life rooted in the Gospel, in imitation of Mary and expressed by prayer, charity, mortification and submission. We devote ourselves to the works of charity and, as true daughters in the heart of the Church, we serve others through the apostolates of education, caring for the sick, the aging and the poor, wherever there is a need.
Qualifications
Freedom from canonical impediment; normal physical health; well-balanced maturity on both the human and supernatural levels.
Formation
When a young woman believes herself called to religious life, she spends six months to one year as a postulant. During this time she familiarizes herself with the religious community, and the community with her. She begins to study the religious life, and earnestly sets out on her quest for personal holiness. During her two years as a novice, Sister opens herself to the Spirit of her new religious family. She studies the Holy Rule, and deepens her prayer life, laying a firm foundation to prepare her to witness to the love of God through the works of charity. At the end of these two years, Sister professes temporary vows publicly, promising to devote herself to Jesus and His interests alone. She renews her temporary vows annually for three to five years. Perpetual, or final vows seal her union with God, freeing her completely for His work.
