Mission
Founded by Blessed Pauline von Mallinckrodt in 1849 in Paderborn, Germany, the Sisters of Christian Charity is a Congregation of vowed women religious responding to God’s call to bring the LOVE of Christ to the world. Transformed by a Eucharistic lifestyle, we are impelled to give and receive Christ's love, joy, peace and healing for the life of the world. We devote all our efforts to make Christ known and loved, imitating especially His love for the poor - the spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally or socially deprived. Our varied ministries include education, healthcare, pastoral work, social work and retreat and spirituality centers.
Qualifications
Good health, a certain degree of human and Christian maturity, sufficient intelligence and practical judgment, basic emotional stability, and the ability to live in community. Must be at least a high school graduate.
Formation
The Pre-novitiate is a time of preparation for the novitiate during which the candidate and community mutually discern the vocation. During Postulancy, the woman lives in community for two years, as she clarifies her motivation and makes the gradual transition to religious life. Postulants may take college courses or may be assigned to a local mission for service. In the two-year Novitiate, the novice focuses on prayer and preparation for living a vowed life as an apostolic religious. Temporary Professed Sisters renew their vows annually for a period of 6 years in preparation for their perpetual profession.
