Mission
The Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George have been called by God to take an active part in rebuilding the Church, which was born from the heart of the crucified Christ. Flowing out of His open side, the charism entrusted to our community is to make the merciful love of Christ visible in our service. We do this through a variety of apostolic activities throughout the United States. See also the Sisters' blog: http://www.1franciscanway.blogspot.com
Qualifications
Candidates for entrance into our community must be single, Catholic women in good physical, mental and moral health, with appropriate personal maturity.
Formation
Formation occurs in the provincial house in Alton, Illinois. It begins with a one-year postulancy, followed by a two-year novitiate. These years lay the foundation for the sister's entire religious life. After the novitiate, the temporary profession of vows is made and vows are renewed for up to three to six years. During the time of the juniorate, the sister is assigned to apostolic work anywhere in the U.S. The sister is then invited to make final profession.
